News for New Immigrants regarding Immigration Service Providers

New immigrants can find a pathway to self-sufficiency upon entering the U.S. by engaging with various organizations that administer the Refugee Resettlement Program.

What services do they provide?

Services are divided into two different subprograms:

  • In the Refugee Cash Assistance Program:
    • Eligible individuals might benefit from up to $537 monthly until their 12th month of living in the U.S., and couples may receive up to $726.
    • Customized assistance to apply for Medicaid, Food Stamps, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), etc.
    • Case management and referrals to other necessary services 
  • In the Refugee Support Services Program:
    • Assistance for TANF(Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) or GA (General Assistance) applications
    • Career Services: Employability Assessment, Training, and job development, Vocational training and skills recertification, Job Placement, Job Maintenance
  • Adjustment Services: English language instruction, Interpretation and translation, School Placement and/or Daycare for children, Placement in Temporary Shelter for families, Assistance to get Citizenship and naturalization

  • Special Immigrant Visa Holder
  • Certified Victim of Trafficking
  • Cuban and Haitian Entrant
  • Ukrainian Humanitarian Parolee (UHP)
  • Afghan Humanitarian Parolee (AHP)

1. If you live in Somerset or Union County, go to the International Rescue Committee (IRC) located in Elizabeth.
