Join Our Internship Program: Promoting Health Equity and Social Justice with LAS
Are you passionate about promoting health equity and social justice? Lakay Acces Sante (LAS) invites undergraduate and graduate students to apply for our dynamic internship program. LAS is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of vulnerable populations in New Jersey through community-driven health initiatives.
Program Overview

- Internship Type: Hybrid Mode – Combination of remote work and onsite participation as needed.
- Duration: Flexible, typically 8–12 weeks or tailored to fit academic schedules.
Program Components
- Orientation and Training: Comprehensive introduction to LAS's mission, goals, and ongoing projects. Training on trauma-conscious engagement, health risk communication, and cultural sensitivity.
- Project Assignments: Interns will be assigned to specific projects aligned with LAS's annual goals, including health needs surveys, culturally tailored education materials, and advocacy efforts.
- Mentorship: Each intern will be paired with a mentor from LAS's team, with regular feedback sessions for professional development.
- Hybrid Work Environment: Flexibility to work remotely on research, writing, and data analysis tasks, with opportunities to participate in community health screenings, workshops, and events.
- Learning and Development: Participation in webinars, workshops, and seminars organized by LAS and partner organizations.
- Final Presentation: Interns will prepare and deliver a final presentation summarizing their project findings, contributions, and recommendations.
Potential Internship Roles
- Health Needs Survey: Assist in conducting a Comprehensive Health Needs Survey among Haitian immigrant communities in New Jersey, including survey instrument development, data collection, and analysis.
- Advocacy and Policy: Support advocacy efforts aimed at influencing policies for Haitian immigrants' health equity and social justice, including research, policy briefs, and engagement with policymakers.
- Health Education: Develop and deliver culturally sensitive health education content in English, French, Spanish, and/or Haitian Creole.
- Social Media and Communications: Create and manage social media content, newsletters, and communication materials to increase LAS's visibility and community engagement.
- Grant Writing and Fundraising: Assist in identifying funding opportunities, writing grant proposals, and supporting fundraising efforts.
